Woven Labels.

Logged at 10:21pm on July 5th, 2005 by Jason

Woven Labels. Now that the prototype for the ASP™ Sling has been completed and all changes have been finalized with the manufacturer, it was time to start designing the product labels that would be added for brand identification.

There were several design issues that needed addressed in order to produce a label that is both quality by design and universal by nature. First and foremost was brand identification. The label needed to represent the company as a whole and not a single product or product line. This was addressed by designing a universal company logo to be used in place of a product name. The second issue revolved around space constraints. The area available to affix a label on any given product can range greatly. However, the ASP™ Sling has a width of only one inch across at its widest point. This meant the label had to be small enough to accommodate such a small area. Another issue was color selection. Since products will be available in Black, Olive Drab, and Desert Tan the label needed to blend seamlessly in all three color environments. The obvious solution and the one I selected was to utilize all three colors during the design process. Finally, I needed to make sure that the artwork was suitable for weaving; the labels were to be woven not printed.

Once I completed the artwork, I started phoning label manufacturers. I needed to locate a company capable of producing the labels in short runs; runs of 1,000 units or less. This was far more difficult than I would have imagined. However, BCI Labels answered the call. They were a delight to work with and provide a quality service at an affordable price. I emailed my completed artwork and received a photo of a woven proof the next day! Turn around time on the complete order was less than 7 days! If you are in need of labels, I would highly recommend you give BCI a call.

This brings me to the purpose of this post. The first label order arrived with today’s mail and I have to say, I am extremely pleased with the final product. I will be shipping these overnight to my manufacturer to have them added to the first production run of the ASP™ Sling. You can expect to see the them available in our store by the end of next week.
