Ambidextrous Multi-Point™ Mission Pack.
Logged at 05:28pm on September 5th, 2005 by Jason
Recently I had been tossing around the idea of making the ASP™ Sling more versatile; capable of conversion to two and possibly three point configurations. However, I wasn’t sure how to approach it without complicating what is already a beautifully simplistic design. Then it hit me! The idea was inspired by a comment from a customer who said, “the triangle is the heart of the design.”
I quickly set about performing heart surgery. I lopped off the sling from the tri-loop and in its place attached a third female buckle which makes the entire core identical at all three connecting points. The real beauty regarding this modification lies in its simplicity. It does not complicate the base design yet it opens up endless configuration options.
With the core altered, I also needed to modify the sling portion that was once attached at point three on the tri-loop. I decided to make both ends identical which proved to be beneficial in more than one way. With the strap now identical at both ends, the sling is truly and without doubt 100% ambidextrous in a single point configuration. Simply throw the entire rig over your shoulder and you’re good to go. There is absolutely no reason to unbuckle anything. An additional benefit was the ability to use the adjustable strap portion solo in other configurations. Enter the two point carry configuration.
At this point only one thing remained. I needed to create attachment points for the strap. Although I am sure at some point I will offer different types of attachments, I opted for dual H&K snap hooks. With a pair of these and the strap you now have a two point carry sling. You may have noticed that the two point configuration does not require the use of the core. However, I am currently working on the three point conversion and the core comes back into play for that setup. Thats about as far as I got today, however, I have laid the ground work for the three point conversion and should have that sorted in the near future.
In the end you will see a complete conversion of a proven single point design into an Ambidextrous Multi-Point (AMP™) Mission Pack capable of one, two and three point configurations.
